Reduce Credit Card Debts
What's the best way to save yourself a lot of money in interest rates and finance charges? Reduce credit card debts, of course!
Practical Ways to Reduce Credit Card Debts
When it comes to credit card debt, we all have at least a little. Some of us even have a lot. If that's the case, you may be wondering what the best way is to get rid of it. On this page, we're going to tell you of some practical, common sense ways to reduce credit card debts.
The first thing you need to do is stop using your credit cards as much as possible. Try to keep one credit card for emergencies, and try to pay cash for everything else. (When you use a credit card, you have a tendency to spend 30% more.) As for the other cards, try to find a credit card to transfer all your other credit card balances to that has a long 0% introductory APR. If you can find one with a 0% introductory period of a year, for example, divide the total amount you transferred to that card by 12, and you'll know how much it will take each month to pay off that card in full. Here are some things to look for when searching for a card for this purpose:
- As we said, look for a card with a 0% introductory rate for a long period of time
- Make sure there are no balance transfer fees
- Make sure the card has no annual fee
Of course, once you've transferred your other credit card balances to this new card, you shouldn't continue to use those cards or the new card. You won't make any progress or reduce credit card debts this way. In fact, you might consider closing the other accounts altogether to resist the temptation to use them. If you continue to use your credit cards, how will you
If you can't find a card to transfer your balances to, try paying at least three times the required monthly minimum on each card. If that's not possible for every card you have, try to focus more money on the one with the highest APR.
When These Ways Fail
Sometimes when you try to reduce credit card debts by transferring balances to a low APR card, you might be turned down when you apply for the card, or they might not extend enough credit for you to transfer the balances to. If this happens, don't be disheartened. You can still get help. There are at least four different kinds of debt management programs that help reduce credit card debt and make credit card debts a thing of the past.
